Stefan Brangs (born September 30, 1964 in Solingen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2004 to 2014 he was a member of the Saxon State Parliament . In addition to Hartmut Mangold , he was State Secretary at the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport from December 2014 to December 2019 . He was the representative of the Saxon state government for digital.

Life

Brangs completed an apprenticeship as a surveying technician and studied at the social academy. From 1990 onwards he took part in the public services, transport and traffic union (ÖTV), initially in Leipzig and later in Dresden, actively building up democratic union structures in Saxony . From 1998 he took on the role of spokesman for ÖTV in Saxony. With the establishment of the United Service Union (ver.di) in 2001, he continued his role as spokesman for ver.di Saxony. From 2002 to April 2005 he was also the ver.di regional department manager for municipalities and was thus responsible for the union representation of employees at the municipal level.

Brangs is married and has three children.

Brangs has been a member of the SPD since 1980. From 2010 to 2016 he was chairman of the SPD district association in Bautzen and from 2006 to 2016 a member of the state board of the SPD Saxony . From 1994 to 2004 and from 2014 to 2019 he was a district councilor in the Bautzen district .

In 2004 and 2009 as well as 2014 Brangs was elected to the state parliament via the state list of the SPD. Within the SPD parliamentary group, he was deputy chairman of the parliamentary group from January 2005 to September 2007 and parliamentary manager and spokesman for labor market policy from 2007 to November 2014 . In September 2009 he was re-elected as parliamentary manager of the SPD state parliamentary group; combined with the election of the 1st deputy chairman of the parliamentary group. With his appointment as State Secretary in the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport on December 3, 2014, he left the state parliament. With the formation of the Kretschmer II cabinet on December 20, 2019, Brangs resigned as State Secretary.

He is a member of ver.di, the Friends of Nature, the SJD Die Falken, Vision 2017- Help for Nicaragua e. V. and the Arbeiterwohlfahrt .

On June 27, 2011, Stefan Brangs won the Quote of the Year award from the State Press Conference Saxony for the statement made to the Minister of Economic Affairs, Sven Morlok (FDP), in the context of the budget debate in the Saxon state parliament :

"If incompetence would make you small, you could parachute under the Christmas tree."
