Stefan Greiner (born January 10, 1978 in Essen ) is a German legal scholar. Since 2012 he has been professor for civil law , labor law and social law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , and since 2018 director of the institute for labor law and social security law there.

Research areas

The focus of his work is on collective bargaining law and labor disputes law , the right to disrupt performance under labor law and the right to terminate as well as social security law . He is also particularly interested in issues at the interface between labor and social law and related disciplines (constitutional law, European law and civil law).

academic career

Greiner studied law at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf from 1997 to 2001 as a fellow of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . In 2001 he passed his first state examination in law. He then worked from 2002 to 2004 as a research assistant at the Research Institute for German and European Social Law at the University of Cologne with Ulrich Preis . During this time he wrote his doctoral thesis on the conflict of legal interests and duties in civil law as a doctoral scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . The thesis completed in 2004 was awarded the Ehrhardt Imelmann PhD award in 2005. From 2003 to 2005, Greiner completed his legal clerkship (including a station at the German Bundestag ), which he completed with the second state examination. After his admission to the bar in 2005, he worked briefly as a lawyer specializing in labor law in an international law firm. From 2006 to 2011 he worked again for Ulrich Preis as a research assistant or academic adviser at the Institute for German and European Labor and Social Law at the University of Cologne. In 2009 he completed his habilitation on the subject of "Legal issues of coalition, collective bargaining and industrial disputes". Greiner received the license to teach civil law, labor and social law. After replacing professors - u. a. in Bochum and Jena - he was appointed university professor at Ruhr University Bochum in 2011. In 2012, Greiner accepted an appointment at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, where he has been Professor of Civil Law, Labor Law and Social Law ever since. In the meantime, he taught as a guest lecturer at the Université François-Rabelais de Tours and the TC Istanbul Kültür Üniversitesi; since 2013 he has been a regular lecturer at the German School of Law (Szkoła Prawa Niemieckiego) at the University of Warsaw .

In 2018 he turned down a call to the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

Subject-related memberships and functions

Greiner has been working part-time as editor-in-chief and co-editor of the Neue Zeitschrift für Sozialrecht (NZS) since 2017 . He is also co-editor of the publications on German and European labor and social security law. In several constitutional complaint proceedings before the Federal Constitutional Court on issues relating to coalition and collective bargaining law, he acts as the authorized representative.

Greiner is a member of the Association of Civil Law Teachers , the Association of Labor Law Teachers, the German Labor Court Association and the German Social Law Association. He acts as a selection lecturer for the German National Academic Foundation , the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) .
