Stefan Herzig

Stefan Herzig (* 1957 in Kiel ) is a German human medicine , pharmacologist and educational researcher. He has been President of the Technical University of Cologne since May 1, 2018 .

Life

Stefan Herzig studied human medicine in Marburg and Kiel and obtained his doctorate in 1984 from Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU Kiel). med. After a Research Fellowship as DFG - fellow at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore , USA, habilitation he did in 1992 in Pharmacology at the University of Kiel. In 1995 he accepted a position as professor for pharmacology at the University of Cologne . In addition to his specialist work in medicine and pharmacology, he is intensively involved in medical training research and development. After completing the postgraduate Master of Medical Education at the University of Bern , Switzerland, he was Dean of Studies at the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne from 2003 to 2007, where he introduced the model course in medicine he had designed . In 2006 Stefan Herzig took over the provisional management of the Institute for Pharmacology. In addition, he headed the graduate program in pharmacology and therapy research founded in 2009 by the University of Cologne in cooperation with Bayer AG . From 2011 to 2018 he was Vice Rector for Teaching and Studies in the Rectorate of the University of Cologne, initially part-time, from 2015 full-time.

Stefan Herzig was also active in other functions for science, so u. a. from 2003 to 2006 as a board member of the Society for Medical Education , from 2007 to 2011 as chairman of the drug commission of the University of Cologne and from 2012 to 2017 as deputy chairman of the State Academy for Medical Education NRW eV From 2009 to 2016 he was work package manager in the national competency-based catalog of learning objectives of the Medical Faculty Day and the Society for Medical Education. From 2012 to 2018 he was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mercator Institute for Language Promotion at the University of Cologne and from 2014 to 2018 a member of the Board of Trustees of the Central Library for Medicine (ZB MED). From 2015 to 2018 he was the spokesman for the prorector group at the NRW state rectors' conference and chairman of the supervisory board of the University of Cologne Executive School gGmbH. Since 2008, Stefan Herzig has been a member of the ethics committee at Cologne University Hospital .

In addition to his commitment in Germany, Stefan Herzig is also a member of international specialist societies and associations and has published scientific articles. In addition, he was u. a. until 2016 editor of the Naunyn Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology and until 2017 editor of the section “The drug” of the German Medical Weekly .
