Stefan Keuter (born August 19, 1972 in Essen ) is a German politician ( AfD ), banker and member of the 19th German Bundestag .

After graduating from the Carl-Humann-Gymnasium in Essen , Keuter did a banking apprenticeship . He worked as a manager and managing director in various companies.

In 2013 Keuter joined the AfD, he was spokesman for the Essen district association until the end of 2017 and deputy spokesman for the Düsseldorf district association. He held this position until 2018, and did not run again, specifying that he was concentrating on exercising the Bundestag mandate. In 2017 he ran for the Bundestag in the Essen III constituency and received 8.09% of the first votes, placing him fifth among the individual applicants. With position 11 on the North Rhine-Westphalian state list of the AfD, he succeeded in entering the Bundestag. Keuter is a member of the Finance Committee and a deputy member of the Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development. He is chairman of the 1st subcommittee. He is also a deputy member of the joint committee of the German Bundestag.

WhatsApp affair

In October 2017, Keuter sent at least seven pictures on WhatsApp that glorified National Socialism . In addition to pictures of Adolf Hitler during the Hitler salute, there were also photos showing armed Wehrmacht soldiers with text subtitles that glorify violence against asylum seekers . The Bundestag member initially denied the facts, but then confirmed that he had sent the photos to an employee who has since been dismissed and who is said to have "observed the political spectrum from left to right" for him. The former employee, on the other hand, affirmed that he usually received the photos without comment or work order.

Another AfD member incriminated Keuter at the hearing before the Wuppertal regional court . The witness assumes that Keuter is behind the content of the statements in the pictures or finds them funny. “In the office, Keuter also saluted every now and then with the words: 'Heil Hitler' and the appropriate hand gesture and hit his heels in the process. On the phone, Keuter often called him ' Reich Chancellery Hitler' [...] "

Complaint for sedition

The Memorial Lindenstraße filed in November 2019 complaint of hate speech against Keuter. According to the representation of the memorial, Keuter justified the murders of the sick during the National Socialist era during a visit there . Keuter denies these allegations, he only criticized that the focus of the exhibition was not enough on the "crimes in the GDR " instead of National Socialism . The chairwoman of the memorial, on the other hand, spoke of an “unbearable trivialization of Nazi crimes” that Keuter had committed during the visit.
