The former training area Pötzen is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony cities of Hessisch Oldendorf and Hameln in the Hameln-Pyrmont district .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 242 is 26.69  hectares in size. The north and west it borders on the landscape protection area "Hessisch Oldendorf Wesertal / North". The area has been under protection since October 5, 2017. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Hameln-Pyrmont.

The nature reserve is north of Hameln. It protects a south-west exposed slope of the Süntel . The area was used as a training ground by the British Army , which maintained a garrison in Hamelin , before they withdrew from Hameln at the end of 2014. The area is open in places, some of the areas are bushy or wooded. Moist areas and temporary pools can be found on loamy clay soil .

The former training area is home to a yellow-bellied toad . He is with his structural diversity is also an important refuge for field birds such as partridge , grasshopper warbler , yellowhammer and tree pipit . For the eagle owl that occurs in the Süntel, it is a hunting ground.

In order to prevent the area from growing under bushes, it should be grazed. The area mainly borders on agricultural land . In the south it borders on state road 423 and in the north on forests of the Süntel.
