The Walterbachtal is a nature reserve in Lower Saxony spots Lauenau (district Feggendorf ) and the community Messenkamp in the Samtgemeinde Rodenberg in the district of Schaumburg and in the city of Bad Munder am Deister (districts Eimbeckhausen and Nienstedt) in the district of Hamelin-Pyrmont .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 124 is 32 hectares in size. Of this, 26 hectares are in the Schaumburg district and 6 hectares in the Hameln-Pyrmont district.
The nature reserve is located west of the Bad Münder district of Nienstedt within the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln nature park . It places a section of the approximately two to five meter wide Walterbach (also called Waltershagener Bach) with its approximately 50 to 100 meter wide valley low and the adjacent slopes in the mountainous forest area of the Deister under protection. The near-natural creek with partly steep slopes is mostly accompanied by alluvial forest . The stream bed is characterized by gravel banks, inverts and ponds . The Waltersbach is one of the salmonid waters . It has occurrences of brown trout and Mühlkoppe . The Bachtal is a habitat for amphibians and breeding, resting and feeding biotopes for numerous bird species .
The lowland is characterized by grassland used as pastures . The moderately steep slopes are covered with beech and oak-hornbeam forests and have swelling areas with rich occurrences of spring flowers .
The area has been a nature reserve since December 24, 1987. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Schaumburg and Hameln-Pyrmont.
