Kameslandschaft is a 244 hectare nature reserve in the Schaumburg district .

description

The area with the registration number HA 219 is located southwest of the town of Rinteln and south of the Weser between Möllenbeck and Krankenhagen . It belongs to the natural region of the Weser and Leinebergland . With the first ordinance of August 18, 2011, the area was placed under nature protection. The responsible nature conservation authority is the district of Schaumburg.

The nature reserve is a hilltop landscape of layered sand and gravel, which, as Kames, are relics of Ice Age formation processes and are part of the river history of the Weser . In the mainly forested area there are several barrows , including the Möllenbeck burial mound , which was archaeologically examined before the sand was extracted . The protected area surrounds an approximately 100 hectare mining area for gravel and sand extraction, which was created as a result of the strong construction activity after the Second World War . The gravel and sand are the richest occurrences in northern Germany with thicknesses of up to 70 meters. At the edges of the mining area there are steep slopes up to 50 meters high.
