The Meerbruchswiesen are a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region , in the town of Rehburg-Loccum in the district of Nienburg / Weser and in the municipality of Wölpinghausen and in Flecken Hagenburg in the joint municipality of Sachsenhagen in the district of Schaumburg .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 190 is 1020  hectares in size. Of this, 452.9 hectares are in the Hanover region, 370.9 hectares in the Nienburg / Weser district and 196.2 hectares in the Schaumburg district. The nature reserve is largely part of the FFH area "Steinhuder Meer (with peripheral areas)" and the EU bird sanctuary "Steinhuder Meer". In the east it borders on the nature reserve " Meerbruch ", in the southeast on the nature reserve " Hagenburger Moor "

The protected area lies to the west and southwest of the Steinhuder Meer between the villages of Mardorf , Rehburg-Loccum, Winzlar and Hagenburg in the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park . It provides a spacious wet lowlands under protection, by running from west to east silting sprozess of Steinhude arose. The lowland used to be characterized by alder forests on low moor and was regularly flooded shallow when the Steinhuder Meer flooded in winter. Today, grassland of varying degrees of moisture and intensity of use predominates, which is protected from flooding by a dam.

The sea break meadows are criss-crossed by numerous ditches , some of which were dug in the 1950s to drain the area. Due to the drainage measures, the former flora and fauna typical of wet meadows was largely destroyed.

In the north of the protected area the Meerbach (Steinhuder Meerbach) flows through the meadows and pastures . Unused areas can be found in the areas near the sea. These are characterized by tall herbaceous vegetation and trees. Can also be found are Seggenrieder and reed beds and hedges and trees.

By placing the sea break meadows under protection, which are an important breeding and resting area for numerous endangered bird species, the area is to be preserved for the flora and fauna. In the area designated as the core zone, the area of the fens is to be rewetted in order to improve the living conditions for living beings that have adapted to damp locations. Small bodies of water for amphibians and birds have been created in several places. An observation tower has been built in the north of the nature reserve, from which the wet meadows can be clearly seen.

The area has been a nature reserve since December 10, 1998. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the Hanover region and the districts of Nienburg / Weser and Schaumburg.
