The Nienburger Bruch is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Nienburg / Weser in the Nienburg / Weser district .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 235 is around 112  hectares in size. It is congruent with the FFH area of the same name . Partly the nature reserve adjacent to the conservation area "Meerbach lowland". The nature reserve has been under protection since November 10, 2016. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Nienburg / Weser.

The nature reserve, which consists of two sub-areas, is located south of Nienburg / Weser in the eponymous Nienburger Bruch, a forest area in the area of ​​the low terrace on the edge of the valley of the Weser . The forest area is characterized by various deciduous forest communities . Thus moist oak-hornbeam mixed forests , oak forests, wood-rush beech forests and alder - ash forests with a high old and dead wood to find and cave trees.

The humid oak-hornbeam forests are made up of pedunculate oak , hornbeam , red beech , rowanberry , hazel and hawthorn. In the herb layer settle u. a. Wood anemones , chickweed , swamp sedge , grass clown , golden nettle and forest ziest . The oak forests are dominated by the common oak. In addition, are silver birch , aspen , beech and alder predominant. In the herb layer settle u. a. Pill sedge , grass clown, thorny worm fern , bracken and pipe grass. The beech forests in the protected area are acidic beech forests with red beech, English oak and holly . The herb layer is u. a. of Carex Pilulifera, wavy , sorrel , millet , shadow Floral formed and thorny Wurmfarn. The alder and ash forests in the protected area are primarily made up of black alder , ash , pedunculate oak and hazel. In the herb layer settle u. a. King fern , swamp sedge, grass clown , giant fescue and shark loosestrife . The oak and beech stocks are often over 100 years old. In addition, there are also some older oaks, including the "Hindenburg oak " (ND-NI21) designated as a natural monument .

The nature reserve is a habitat of various bats , including Bechstein's bat , pond bat , greater mouse-eared , Noctule , Pipistrelle and Brandt's bat . Valuable bird species are red kite , black and small woodpecker .

The forest area is partially traversed by the Meerbach (Steinhuder Meerbach) and the Bärenfallgraben. Source areas can be found here and there. In the east of the nature reserve there is an extensively used meadow . The nature reserve is often surrounded by other forest communities from the Nienburger Bruch. In the north and west in particular, it also borders on agricultural areas.
