The Drakenburger Marsch is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Drakenburg in the Samtgemeinde Heemsen and the city of Nienburg / Weser in the Nienburg / Weser district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 155 is 254 hectares in size. It borders the "Wesermarsch" conservation area to the west and south . The area, which is managed by the Nienburger Kreisverband des Naturschutzbund Germany , has been under nature protection since September 19, 1991. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Nienburg / Weser.
The nature reserve is located north of Nienburg between the Weserschleife west of Drakenburg and the Geestrand and provides protection for one of the last contiguous grassland complexes in the lowland area of the Weser , which was once a form of land use that was typical for the entire Wesermarsch.
The landscape is structured by numerous hedges , which represent an important retreat for numerous animals and plants. In addition, there is a relatively large stock of trees (single trees and groups of trees). Large parts of the protected area are used for agriculture, mainly as permanent grassland, partly also as arable land . The grassland is partly shaped by flood troughs. It is regularly flooded and thus represents an important retreat for animals and plants bound to temporary bodies of water and temporarily moist grassland.
In the nature reserve there are also several large ponds that were created by gravel. In addition to their function as a habitat, they are also resting areas for migrating water birds .
