The Meerbruch is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony cities of Wunstorf and Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region and the city of Rehburg-Loccum in the Nienburg / Weser district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 060 is 211 hectares . Of this, 186.6 hectares are in the Hanover region and 24.4 hectares in the Nienburg / Weser district. The nature reserve is completely part of the FFH area “Steinhuder Meer (with peripheral areas)” and the EU bird protection area “Steinhuder Meer”. In the west it borders on the nature reserve " Meerbruchswiesen ", in the south-east on the nature reserve " Hagenburger Moor ". The area has been a nature reserve since June 25, 1981. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the Hanover region and the Nienburg / Weser district.
The Meerbruch lies on the west bank of the Steinhuder Meer in the Steinhuder Meer nature park . It includes the shore area of the Steinhuder Meer as well as a strip of the water surface in front of it. The shore area is by a reed belt and alder - carr coined. This is followed by meadows, some of which are used as grassland with varying degrees of intensity, and birch forests rich in peat moss .
There are larger areas of water within the nature reserve. To the north of this is the Meerbach (Steinhuder Meerbach) regulated by a weir as a natural drainage of the Steinhuder Meer. Two observation towers have been erected in the southern area of the nature reserve, from which the Steinhuder Meer and the siltation zone in the bank area can be seen.
