In the seven mountain parts there is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Lehrte in the Hanover region .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 102 is 16.5  hectares in size. It is completely from the conservation area "Altwarmbüchener Moor - Ahltener Forest" surrounded. The area has been a nature reserve since July 3, 1986. The lower responsible nature conservation authority is the Hanover region.

The nature reserve, located between Lehrte and Hanover in the Ahlten Forest, directly north of federal motorway 2 , is protecting a former sand excavation pit that is bordered to the north, east and south by an embankment . There are several small bodies of still water in the protected area, some of which only carry water at times. The riparian zones are mostly flat and occupied by reed stocks of cattails and reeds . There are also swampy areas with rushes and sedges . In addition, trees such as shrubs and trees grow in the former sand pit . Other areas consist of open sand and gravel areas and are occupied by dry sand grass and pioneer vegetation .

The nature reserve is an important habitat for various animal and plant species, including numerous threatened species. So is the former sand pit u. a. Habitat for amphibians and reptiles .
