The Zigeunerwäldchen (official spelling: Ziegeunerwäldchen , e.g. in the ordinance on the nature reserve, presumably as a result of a neighboring former brick factory ) is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Springe in the Hanover region .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 115 is 15 hectares in size. It is largely from the conservation area surrounded "Haller lowland". The area has been a nature reserve since December 18, 1986. The lower responsible nature conservation authority is the Hanover region.
description
The nature reserve lies between the Springer districts of Stadt Eldagsen and Gestorf at the foot of the Abrahams . It represents a section of the lowlands of Haller , a tributary of the leash , under protection, here of a wicker auto- and break tree accompanied. The mostly near-natural forest remnants are unused today, but still influenced by earlier use. Willows and a high proportion of tree fungi characterize the forest, in which there is a lot of lying and standing dead wood . On swampy clearings extensive grow reeds stocks and tall sedge .
In the west and south, grassland areas are included in the nature reserve. The nature reserve largely borders on arable land.
The Lower Saxony Landgesellschaft acquired the Zigeunerwäldchen nature reserve for an area pool. The association Biotop-Management-Initiative e. V. transferred.
history
The gypsy forest is located between the course of the southern Neue Haller and the northern course of the Alte Haller. Between the rivers there was originally a meadow that was used as a paddock . In the 19th century there was a brick factory to the west of it on the "Auf den Bülten" parcel. In 1849 she leased this meadow for use as a clay engraving and meadow. At the beginning of the 20th century, the brick factory was shut down and demolished; the rubble was disposed of in the clay pit created by the clay stitch. The swampy plot of land, which was lower due to the clay, was converted into a wood.
In earlier centuries the Sinti and Roma, then called Gypsies , were not allowed to enter the nearby town of Eldagsen and had to stay in the parcel "Auf dem Bruche", which lay fallow as a wetland on the Haller and could not be used for agriculture. The parcel "Auf dem Bruche" has been called "Gypsy Grove" since 1984 in Eldagsen and Gestorf.
In the course of the territorial and administrative reform, the "Gypsy Grove" in 1974 with an area of 9 hectares was transferred from the town of Eldagsen to the town of Springe. Since it could not be used profitably from a forestry point of view, the town of Springe sold the "Gypsy Forest" in 1983 to the then "Bund für Vogelschutz" (later name: NABU Springe) for the amount of 90,000 DM, which the local branch Springe had to raise in installments . Since the local branch Springe was not a registered association at the time, the regional association acted as a buyer.
An important milestone was the designation as a nature reserve by the Hanover district government in 1986 with a size of 15 hectares, i.e. beyond the property areas of the "German Association for Bird Protection" (today: Nature Conservation Union Germany ). The parcels are leased to three farmers for the purpose of nature conservation. The following priorities were set in the following years:
- The purchase of neighboring areas for the purpose of rounding off and enlarging the area, especially with financial support from the Hanover district government - the upper nature conservation authority.
- The maintenance and development of the area in terms of nature conservation by transferring formerly agricultural areas from intensive to extensive cultivation, creation of wetlands, planting of hedges, etc. In 2004, the maintenance and development plan "Goat forests and surroundings" was adopted by the Working group for landscape planning, ecology and nature conservation in Garbsen created in close consultation with the nature conservation authorities of the Hanover region, the Hildesheim district and the NABU Springe. It covers an area of approx. 80 ha and is divided into parts 1 "Status and assessment" and part 2 "Maintenance and development". The plan represents an important working basis for everyone involved.
- The observation and recording of the fauna and flora. The results are encouraging. B. 25 bird species as well as 27 species of moths that are on the "Red List" can be observed. A clear improvement can also be felt in the diversity of vegetation.
- Involving neighboring property owners and the general population through discussions, information and guided tours.
Foundation of the NABU local association Springe
The Nabu -Ortsverein Springe has had its own foundation since 2012 , which was established with endowment capital of 25,000 euros and 16 properties. The aim of the foundation is to make nature conservation in Springe sustainable. The heart of the projects is the gypsy forest. The Nabu bought the property in 1983; In 1986 it became a nature reserve. The income from the capital is used to maintain the existing properties and to acquire new areas. The volunteers try to manage as many care measures as possible on their own. One goal of the foundation is the renaturation of the Haller and the formation of a tributary of the Haller, which throttles the current speed and thereby creates a habitat for further animal and plant species. One of the goals of the Nabu members is to acquire the land adjacent to the gypsy forest in order to create connections to Hallerburger Holz , Jeinser Holz, Stude and Horn on the B 3 with hedges and green spaces .
Objectives
Further watering should be carried out (as far as legally possible), since in the past the groundwater level in the area of the valley floor was lowered to 1.5 to 2 m simply by straightening the course and clearing the Haller, which was reinforced by drainage. However, in order to have a technical and legal basis at hand, the "Haller" water development plan would finally have to be commissioned.
Development goal: Overall goal: Ecological upgrading of the Haller and establishment of the continuous passability from the Haller to the Ramke.
Sub-goals: Promotion of the momentum, reduction of the hydraulic load, reactivation of floodplain areas, improvement of water quality, promotion of biodiversity, abolition of the segmentation of the water, optical integration of the water biotope into the landscape, promotion of the adventure and recreational value.
