Deciduous forests south Seelze is a mainly in the city of Seelze in the Lower Saxony region of Hanover located nature reserve . The area consisting of the two parts of the Kirchwehrener Forest and Almhorster Forest includes the FFH area of ​​the same name, which has existed since 2004 . Several small areas on the eastern edge of the Kirchwehrener wood are located in Gehrden area and a small area on the southern edge of the Kirchwehrener wood belongs to Barsinghausen .

The nature reserve consists of two separate forest areas .

The 252 hectare part of the Kirchwehrener Wald , or the Großer Holz , is located south of the Kirchwehren district and occupies the extreme south of the Seelz urban area.

The 243 hectare Almhorster Wald sub-area comprises the central area of ​​the Lohnder and Almhorster Wald, which is elongated in an east-west direction . This extends south of the Mittelland Canal from the Almhorst district of Seelz to the south of the Dedensen district . The forest surrounding the nature reserve, including the adjacent agriculturally used areas, is protected as a landscape protection area (LSG H 026) "Lohnder - Almhorster Wald".

The two forest areas are characterized by the centuries-old habitat continuity as a forest with near-natural forest floor structures and significant stocks of local woody plants.

In the Almhorster forest, mixed oak and hornbeam forests dominate in moderately moist to moist forms. In the east of the Almhorster forest and parts of the Kirchwehrener forest there are larger stands of beech forest. On the edge of the Lohnder Bach and Kirchwehrener Landwehr rivers, there are small alder and broken ash forests.

There are a large number of protected and endangered animal species in the nature reserve. In particular, the coming Bechstein's bat , greater mouse-eared , Daubenton's bat , Noctule , Natterer's bat and pipistrelle ago.

The peripheral areas and open land structures surrounding the nature reserve are valuable habitats for insects and hunting habitats for bats and birds of prey.
