Bockmerholz, Gaim is a nature reserve located in Sehnde Laatzen and Hanover in the Hanover region of Lower Saxony . In January 2019 it replaced the previous nature reserves Holzwiese-Bockmerholz , Margelhalde , Gaim and Bockmerholz .

With the exception of a few exclaves near Oesselse, the nature reserve includes the existing FFH area Bockmerholz, Gaim .

description

In the nature reserve, oak-hornbeam forests that are relatively natural, rich in species and structures, are predominant. Also included are the old marl dump in the northeast of the area as well as wet areas such as the Brinksoot natural monument .

In the translucent old oak stands there is mostly a well-developed layer of shrubs and herbs as well as an abundance of spring bloomers. The forests are home to many species of animals, including birds, especially woodpeckers , bats, and other mammals.

The most important species for protection according to the Habitats Directive are the crested newt and the dark blue ant .

Protective measures

Protective measures planned for forest management are the promotion of habitat trees and dead wood , the avoidance of path and road construction and, in some areas, the raising of water levels by closing drainage ditches and the waiver of water development. Likewise, the keeping of poor grasslands and meadows open and the promotion of vegetation that serves as a caterpillar habitat for butterflies and the care of small bodies of water by protecting against nutrient input .
