Hämeler Wald und Sohrwiesen is the name of a nature reserve located in the towns of Lehrte and Sehnde in the Hanover region of Lower Saxony . It is identical to the FFH area “Hämeler Wald”, which was designated in 2004 .

geography

The nature reserve lies in the area of the Lehrter district of Hämelerwald and the Sehnder districts of Dolgen and Haimar . The southern edge borders on the district of Peine . The federal motorway 2 running in west-east direction and the high-speed line Hanover-Berlin divide the nature reserve into three parts.

Until the ordinance of the nature reserve, its area was part of the Hämelerwald landscape protection area .

The Hämeler Wald and Sohrwiesen nature reserve is part of the natural space unit “Lehrter Geest” in the main natural space unit “Weser-Aller-Flachland”.

description

The reserve includes the near-natural primarily deciduous forests dominated Hämeler forest . The Sohrwiesen wet meadow complex forms the south-western part . The deciduous forest is one of the largest deciduous forest areas in the Weser-Aller lowland. As far as is known, the site was never used as arable land or pasture . It therefore has near-natural forest floor structures. There are significant populations of genetically diversified native woody plants. These are of particular importance for the conservation of inter- and intra-species biological diversity.

Size and location make the nature reserve a nationally important core area for the biotope network . It thus also serves the genetic exchange and the stabilization of the populations of wild animals.

Northern sub-area

In the 167 hectare sub-area north of the Federal Motorway 2, there is extensive afforestation with a high proportion of conifers. In between there are also natural oak and hornbeam mixed forests in moist, base-poor locations as well as individual occurrences of beech forests.

Middle sub-area

In the 254-hectare sub-area between the federal motorway and the high-speed route, oak and hornbeam mixed forests dominate as semi-natural forest communities in moist or wet forms. In the central area there is a large mixed oak forest on poor, moist sandy soil. Beech forests are relatively rare.

In addition, there are deciduous and coniferous forests as well as recent reforestation in this sub-area.

Southern sub-area

In the 611 hectare sub-area south of the high-speed route, there are, in addition to the Sohrwiesen in the south-west, a variety of natural deciduous forest communities. In the center of the area, beech forests of various types dominate. Almost in a ring around it, there are mixed oak and hornbeam forests. Quarry forests or alder and ash forests stand along the vineyard that flows from east to west . In this area, too, there are non-natural coniferous forests and deciduous afforestations.

Sohrwiesen

Sohrwiesen

In the area Sohrwiesen in the southwest of the southern sub-region, there is a change from grassland and forests, the silting areas of nutrient-rich pond and reed stocks are interspersed.

The grassland areas are predominantly cultivated as hay meadows, and in some cases also extensively grazed. In terms of nature conservation, very valuable, species-rich pipe grass meadows are to be emphasized .

The individual near-natural, nutrient-rich still waters are of great importance for amphibians such as the crested newt and the tree frog .

Protected species

There are a variety of protected animal and plant species in the nature reserve. These include orchid species such as two-leaved forest hyacinth , fox's orchid , large two-leaf , Färber's sill , common meadow silt , Siberian iris and medicinal herb .

The forest areas are the habitat of strictly protected bat species such as the great mouse- eared bat , the great noctule bat and the broad-winged bat . There are occurrences of red kite , honey buzzard , stock dove , oriole , black woodpecker and green woodpecker .

In extensively used areas of Sohrwiesen breed among others lapwing , skylark and backed Shrike .
