The Holzmühle quarry is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Springe in the Hanover region .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 090 is 9 hectares in size. It is located southwest of the Springer district of Eldagsen in the west of the Osterwald in the immediate vicinity of the " Saupark " nature reserve . It places a former limestone quarry and some peripheral areas under protection. This is dominated by a steep edge in the south. Scree slopes and stone blocks as well as several temporary bodies of water can be found on the former mining site . The waters, which are important as a habitat for amphibians , are protected from impairment by earth walls.
In addition to its importance as a habitat for endangered animals and plants, the geological profile of the quarry wall is of geoscientific importance, as the layers of the Kimmeridgian and the coral oolite rock formation are exposed here.
The area has been a nature reserve since December 24, 1985. The lower responsible nature conservation authority is the Hanover region.
