The Stolzenau / Leese domain is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Leese in the Mittelweser municipality in the Nienburg / Weser district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 176 is 248 hectares . It is largely part of the FFH area "Teichfledermaus-Gewässern in the Nienburg area" and the EU bird sanctuary "Wesertalaue bei Landesbergen".
The nature reserve is located southwest of Nienburg in a loop in the Weser between Stolzenau and Leese. It protects a lake landscape with several islands in the flood plain of the Weser, created by gravel. In the north and west the nature reserve borders on the Weser, in the south on the federal highways 215 and 441, which run together here .
Gravel continues to be mined east of the nature reserve . Operating areas such as a loading facility for the removal of the extracted gravel by ship and a flushing sand area are partly within the boundaries of the nature reserve. Small areas within the protected area are used for agriculture. The gravel ponds are only partly used for fishing, partly they are closed.
Through the protection status, the landscape to a natural pond ecosystem by using amphibious zones, reed belts , Hochstaudenfluren , shrubs and grassland develop. A riparian forest is to be developed on parts of the land in the protected area . The protected area is also of particular importance due to its proximity to the “ Schluesselburg barrage ” nature reserve , which is just a few kilometers to the south .
The area has been a nature reserve since December 18, 1997. It is looked after by the Nienburger Kreisverband des Naturschutzbund Germany . The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Nienburg / Weser. The Weserradweg leads past the nature reserve.
