Stefan Postma (born June 10, 1976 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch football goalkeeper . The approximately two-meter-long home grown of FC Utrecht gained experience in English football between 2002 and 2006 at Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers and currently plays for the Dutch second division club AGOVV Apeldoorn .

Athletic career

Postma began his goalkeeping career in his home country at FC Utrecht before moving to De Graafschap in Doetinchem . For 1.5 million pounds he moved on May 14, 2002 to the English first division club Aston Villa , where a squad place in the goalkeeper position had become free due to the departure of Peter Schmeichel to Manchester City . He made his debut with the "Villans" on October 14, 2002, after the new goalkeeper Peter Enckelman was sent off against FC Southampton and Postma had to represent them directly. However, he waited in vain for the final breakthrough; in the 2002/03 season he played only five more games in the Premier League . In the following years he did not get beyond the role of substitute goalkeeper. The departure of Enckelman also did not bring the hoped-for promotion, as a replacement was quickly found in the Dane Thomas Sørensen , who in turn was now "Number 1" in Birmingham.

After a series of speculations about a possible successor club, Postma moved at the beginning of the 2005/06 season on loan to second division Wolverhampton Wanderers and signed a short-term contract there in January 2006 until the end of the current season. However, since the "Wolves" planned in the medium term with their own goalkeeper talent, who had been injured in the meantime, Postma left the club in May 2006 and joined the ADO Den Haag club in the local honor division .

The time in The Hague was changeable in terms of sport. In his first year he was relegated from the top Dutch league; this was followed by direct resurgence via the qualifying matches, although the club had only finished sixth in the regular championship round and 19 points behind runner-up RKC Waalwijk , who could then be defeated in the play-off final. He returned to De Graafschap for half a year in August 2008, then tried unsuccessfully to come under at Sheffield United and then briefly helped out at the Cypriot club Ermis Aradippou .

Postma has been playing for the Dutch second division club AGOVV Apeldoorn since July 2009 .
