Life

Stefan Sundström is the son of Helga Zengerlin (* 1929 in Freiburg / Germany) and Erik Sundström (* in Vikmanshyttan , Dalarna ). His mother had emigrated to Sweden in 1953 to work as a domestic help in Stockholm. Stefan Sundström's parents ran a grocery store.

Sundström was born in Högdalen and grew up there and in Farsta (from 1965) in the south of Stockholm. He has a sister. He dropped out of school (grammar school). In 1974 he heard the Rolling Stones and Cornelis Vreeswijk . He started making music himself and played in various bands such as Trots , Läppstars , KSMB , Skjut and Fuck Off . At the same time he worked in the care of the psychiatric clinic in Långbro and as an employee of the Stockholm Transport Company before he started a two-year high school education in child and youth care . Musical influences have been punk since the late 1970s , and in the 1980s he came into contact with older Swedish music, such as Carl Michael Bellman and Fred Åkerström . He released his first record, but then withdrew from rock music, wrote pieces as a songwriter and attended a writing workshop for adult education (Folkhögskola Jakobsberg). In 1984 he met the then musician and today's teacher Karin Renberg, with whom he still lives today and has two daughters. He now worked in the economics department of Children's Village Skå, which gave him the opportunity to work as a musician with children.

In 1988 he founded the band Apache (later: Weeping Willows ) with Ola Nyström, Papa Mats Hedén and Stefan Axelsen , with which he prevailed in the early 1990s. In 1990 his first LP En bärs med Nefertite was released . Today he describes Cornelis Vreeswijk and Evert Taube as his musical role models.

He was also seen in Germany in the Swedish film Eva and Adam - Four Birthdays and a Fiasco (2001). The film was based on the television series Eva and Adam , in which he appeared since 1998. In Svenska hjältar (= Swedish heroes; 1997) he played one of the main roles. In 2009 he appeared together with Jack Vreeswijk, son of Cornelis Vreeswijk, in the Norwegian road movie Pappa kom hem .

In 1992 he received the Bellman Prize of the City of Stockholm, in 1994 the award Grammis , Swedish equivalent of Grammy , male as the best rock musicians, 1995 Fred Åkerström Scholarship, 1998 by Cornelis Vreeswijk named Cornelispris , 2001 Grona Lunds Evert Taube Award, 2003 and then again in 2006 a Grammis .
