Stefano Rusconi

Stefano Rusconi (born October 2,  1968 in Bassano del Grappa ) is a former Italian basketball player .

career

Rusconi played a total of 433 games in Serie A between 1987 and 2002 , while he was in the starting line-up in 424 games. Until 1991, the 2.08 meter indoor player was under contract in Varese . After Rusconi had shone there in the 1990/91 season with averages of 14.9 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, he was signed by Benetton Treviso . With Treviso he was Italian champion in 1992 and 1997, in the 1994/95 season Rusconi achieved the best points average of his career in Serie A (16.4 / game) and also got an average of 9.9 rebounds per use. As a result, the center, nicknamed "Rusca", was voted Player of the Year for the Serie A season 94/95. In European Cup competitions he won no title, in 1993 Rusconi lost with Treviso the final of the European Cup against Limoges . From 1999 to 2002 Rusconi played for Adecco Milan and then still lower class in his home country.

His time in Serie A was interrupted by two stays abroad. Rusconi, who  had been selected in the NBA draft process in 1990 in 52nd place by the Cleveland Cavaliers , began the 1995/96 season with the NBA team Phoenix Suns . He had communication problems in the United States due to the language, was only used in seven NBA games (1.1 points, 0.9 rebounds / game), at the end of January 1996 there was a separation and he went back to Treviso. Rusconi was the first Italian to appear in an NBA game.

In the 1998/99 season he was under contract with the Spanish first division club TAU Cerámica , where he scored an average of 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in 23 league appearances.

National team

With Italy's national team he reached the final at the 1991 European Championship, but was subject to the selection of Yugoslavia there . He also took part in the European Championship tournaments in 1993 and 1995. At the European Championship '93 in Germany he was the second best thrower for the Italians with 14 points per encounter.
