Stefano Sannino (born December 1959 in Naples ) is an Italian political scientist , diplomat , EU official and since January 2016 Italian Ambassador to Spain.

biography

After studying political science at the University of Naples , Sannino entered the diplomatic service in 1986 . As a result, he held various offices in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Italy.

Sannino began his career at the European Commission in 2002 as a consultant for external relations and trade in the cabinet of the then President of the European Commission Romano Prodi . From 2009 to 2010 he was Deputy Head of the Asia and Latin America Department. He then moved to the Expansion Department, where he was Deputy Head from 2010 to 2011 and Head from April 2011 to July 2013. He left this post to become Italy's representative to the EU before assuming the post of ambassador in Madrid.
