Culture and sights

Buildings

  • About half a kilometer from Stefansfeld is Salem Castle , which was once a Cistercian monastery and has been home to the Salem Castle Boarding School since 1920 .
  • In Stefansfeld itself there is the Sancta Maria Victoria Chapel , also called Stefansfeld Chapel , next to which the local cemetery is located.
  • The Schlosssee Salem , which lies between Mimmenhausen and Stefansfeld and was once a gravel pit, is also a well-attended leisure activity in the community.

Regular events

  • Every year the “Brunnenfest” is traditionally held on Father's Day by the “Brunnenverein Salem eV”, where regional specialties are served around the village fountain. societies

The "Narrenverein Salem eV" is the oldest association in Stefansfeld. In 1911 the "Fire Witch Salem" were founded, in 1916 the "barrel heads" joined them, and there is also a carpenters' guild. The "barrel heads" are based on the historical wooden masks that used to be attached to the wine barrels to enable winemakers to recognize the degree of sweetness and the grape variety without having to open the barrel. The masks either show a smiling face (lovely) or a grimace (dry), while the foolish hatred (costume) reflects the color of the wine.
