The Stefanskirche

The Stefanskirche Hirzenbach is an Evangelical Reformed church in the city of Zurich . It is located at Altwiesenstrasse 170 in the Schwamendingen district .

history

Since the Schwamendingen district grew rapidly after the Second World War , the Reformed parish of Schwamendingen decided to build two new churches next to the historic Schwamendingen church. In front of the younger Saatlen church , the Stefanskirche was built in the Hirzenbach area. Max Aeschlimann and Armin Baumgartner built the church and the parish hall between 1954 and 1955. In the 1980s, the ancillary buildings were rebuilt.

Building description

The free-standing church tower rises on a building site on the corner between Altwiesenstrasse and Luchswiesenweg in the midst of suburban surroundings and refers to the location of the Stefanskirche. The church is connected to the rectory and the parish hall through open galleries . Modest and yet representative of the architecture after the Second World War, the church rises as a polygonal church building with a tent-like roof . In terms of design, the Stefanskirche is related to the Markuskirche in Seebach and the New Church in Witikon . Since the ancillary buildings were heavily changed in the 1980s, the building ensemble lost its original appearance. The church itself, however, has largely been preserved in its original state.

organ

The Stefanskirche received its first organ in 1955 . It was a multiplex organ with electric action and solenoid valves. The free-standing, rising front pipes were characteristic. This organ was built by Orgelbau Maag AG, Zurich, and had 16 sounding stops on two manuals and a pedal . In 1984 this first instrument was replaced by today's organ. It is a mechanical organ by Orgelbau Armin Hauser, Kleindöttingen, with 23 registers on 2 manuals and pedal.
