Steffen Handschuh (born April 26, 1980 in Reichenbach an der Fils ) is a former German soccer player . He is the son of the 358-time Bundesliga player Karl-Heinz Handschuh .

career

Handschuh learned the soccer game first at VfB Reichenbach an der Fils and later at VfL Kirchheim / Teck and switched to VfB Stuttgart in 1997 , where the former U17 national player initially played in the A youth team. In 1999 he was in the final of the German championship with the VfB A-youth team , but missed it because of a knee injury. Due to persistent problems with the meniscus , he soon had to take a two-year break and did not make his comeback with the Stuttgart amateurs until March 2002.

Just two weeks later, on April 7, 2002, Handschuh made his only Bundesliga appearance when he came on for Christian Tiffert in the 64th minute of the away game against SC Freiburg . Glove scored the goal in the 88th minute to make it 2-0. For the 2002/03 season, glove moved up to the professional squad in Stuttgart. When VfB finished 15th on the 7th matchday of the 2002/03 season with just seven points in the table, Felix Magath, together with Benjamin Adrion and contract amateurs Michael Fink , sent him back to the amateurs for a firmer and more effective one To enable training work with the professionals. Glove subsequently suffered cartilage and meniscus damage in his knee, which ultimately meant that he had to end his professional career.

At the end of 2005, Handschuh joined SG Schorndorf , for which he played in the regional league for half a year. In the 2006/07 season, Handschuh was assistant coach at FC Donzdorf, which was promoted to the association's league , while also playing in the first team. In the meantime, Handschuh also helped out as an interim trainer. At the end of the season Donzdorf rose again from the association league and glove left the club. Meanwhile, Steffen Handschuh is a player-coach in the district league at 1. FC Rechberghausen .
