Benjamin Adrion (born March 31, 1981 in Stuttgart ) is a former German soccer player and initiator of the aid project Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli . His father is the soccer coach Rainer Adrion .
Football career
The midfielder Adrion started playing football as a youth at VfB Neckarrems and switched to the VfB Stuttgart youth team via SpVgg Unterhaching . There he went through all youth teams and completed a total of 5 international matches for the U15-U17 national teams of the DFB. With the Württemberg selection, Benjamin Adrion won the U-19 country cup alongside Kevin Kuranyi and became German champion.
In the 2000/01 season Adrion was appointed to the VfB regional league team, for which he made 50 appearances in two seasons and scored five goals.
In summer 2002 he moved up to the first team of VfB, but did not play a competitive game under Felix Magath and moved to regional league club Eintracht Braunschweig after one season in summer 2003 . Adrion completed 14 games for Lower Saxony in the 2003/04 season and scored one goal.
After one season Adrion moved to FC St. Pauli . Adrion played a total of 52 games for the Kiezklub and finally ended his career in 2007.
Viva con Agua de St. Pauli
Together with Welthungerhilfe , Benjamin Adrion launched the Viva con Agua de St.Pauli project in 2005 after seeing the conditions on site at the winter training camp in Cuba . The aim of this project is to improve the drinking water supply , especially for kindergartens and schools, in developing countries. This project was started in Havana , where water dispensers have already been installed in more than 150 kindergartens to provide clean drinking water.
On October 5, 2009, Benjamin Adrion was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his commitment , although at the time of the award he had not yet reached the normally required minimum age of 40 years.
On November 10, 2018 Adrion won as a candidate in the ARD quiz show I know everything! 100,000 euros that will benefit his aid project.
