Stefi Talman
Stefi Talman (born January 3, 1958 in Zurich ), actually Stefanie Thalmann, is a Swiss shoe designer.
Life
Stefi Talman grew up in Zurich. She is the daughter of Regula Nydegger, a Swiss rhythm teacher, and Kam-Tim Leung, a mathematician from Hong Kong who now lives in France. When Stefanie was four years old, her mother married the painter Roland Thalmann, whose name she took on.
In 1975 she attended the preliminary course at the Zurich University of Art and Design (HGKZ), after which she began a three-year apprenticeship as a custom-made shoemaker in Winterthur. She completed her training with additional training in cutting technology at the Ars Sutoria Institute in Milan .
In 1979 Talman opened her first studio in Zurich, where she made small series of handmade shoes. The models, which stood out for their lightness and unusual coloring, enabled her to work with a larger sales team. In 1979/80 the first collection was shown under the Stefi Talman label. Among the only four models, which were available in a wide range of colors, was ZIP, an ankle-high shoe with a sloping zipper that ran over the instep . The model, which caused an international sensation and was copied many times, helped Stefi Talman to break through. After seven collections and several changes of producers and manufacturers, the label was discontinued in 1986.
Talman then worked freelance for various European and Asian shoe companies. These included design assignments for Charles Jourdan , Free Lance, Fiorucci and the Central Group in Bangkok .
In 1994 the designer relaunched the Stefi Talman label in Zurich. Since then, Talman has been working with a shoe manufacturer near Venice . In 1999 the collection was expanded to include bags and purses. In 2001 Stefi Talman opened her own shop in Zurich's old town .
style
Most of the last prototypes are still made by the designer herself. Their unmistakable handwriting is characterized by functional design elements, clear lines, color accents and contrasts. Talman uses high quality materials such as calfskin, goat leather and calf leather, with a preference for special prints and surfaces.
