Stein im Allgäu , officially Stein i.Allgäu (until 1952 Stein ), is a district in Immenstadt im Allgäu in the Oberallgäu district . The formerly independent municipality was incorporated into Immenstadt im Allgäu on January 1, 1972 as part of the municipal reform . Laubenbergerstein Castle is nearby . The district of the same name was the capital of the municipality.

Geographical

In 1963, the Preußische Bergwerks- und Hütten AG came across a thermal brine with a high content of iodine during an oil and natural gas well at a depth of 3790 meters . During the almost ten-year scientific investigation of the brine, the drill rods corroded, so that in 1973 the borehole had to be filled in. The project for a spa in Stein was finally abandoned in 1981 for economic reasons.

St. Mauritius
  • Stein - Parish Church of St. Mauritius : The Diocese of Constance listed the parish of Stein (as "Staine" ) in a directory from 1275. The first church may have consisted of a wooden structure. The structure has been changed several times over the centuries. In 1450, the knight Caspar von Laubenberg had the so-called Marienkapelle built on the south side of the church in order to use it as a burial place for the noble family. In 1709 the nave was redesigned. In 1725 the "Capell" was built , which is believed to include the opening of the Marienkapelle to the nave through pillar arcades, ie the conversion of the chapel into a side aisle. In 1774 the nave and the choir were redesigned.

There was a school in Stein as early as 1745. In 1815 a school building was built at Kirchbichl No. 12. In 1928 the school moved to a new building at Kirchbichl No. 2. In 1966 a new school building was inaugurated at Am Eckschachen 4, which was expanded in 1990/91 and renovated again in 2011.

Stein im Allgäu is close to the Munich – Lindau railway line , but has no stopping point . The next train station is Immenstadt .
