The Saaletalbrücke Hollstadt is a 592 m long bridge on the federal highway 71 . It is the second longest bridge structure in the Bavarian section.

The bridge lies between the junctions Mellrichstadt and Bad Neustadt an der Saale and crosses the valley of the Franconian Saale near Hollstadt . At a height of a maximum of 39 m with nine fields, a Mühlbach, the road between Hollstadt and Wülfershausen an der Saale , the former route of the Bad Neustadt – Bad Königshofen railway and a farm road with the Saale valley cycle path are spanned.

The bridge was built with two separate superstructures between 2002 and 2005. Due to the bankruptcy of the executing company, there was a delay of about one year in the completion of the bridge.

Foundation and substructures

The abutments and the pillars are deeply founded on bored piles . The full cross-section of the pillars consists of a rectangle with rounded end faces at heights of up to 34 m. The pier heads widen at the top to accommodate the bearings .

Superstructures

Box-girder cross-section of a prestressed concrete bridge

Due to a special proposal from the construction company, the two adjacent superstructures were not constructed as a steel composite structure , but in prestressed concrete . The superstructures have the continuous beam as a structural system in the longitudinal direction . In the transverse direction there is a box cross-section with a constant construction height of 4.1 m. The prestressing consists of a mixed construction with internal and external tendons .

The span for the nine-span bridge is 51.8 m + 2 × 65.0 m + 68.0 m + 73.0 m + 2 × 76.0 m + 65.0 m + 51.8 m.

execution

Bridge soffit

The bridge superstructures were built using the incremental launching method. Because of the large spans, auxiliary piers were necessary in the middle of the field. These were reinforced concrete hollow pillars with a height of 14 m to 33 m, which were demolished again with the help of blasting after the superstructure was completed.
