The Schwarza Viaduct is a 675 m long bridge on Autobahn 71 . It was one of the first composite steel bridges with a one-piece superstructure when building the autobahn in Germany .

The structure is located at 140 km between the Suhl motorway junction and the Meiningen -Nord motorway junction and crosses the Schwarza valley south of Schwarza . The national road 1131 from Rohr to Schwarza is spanned at a height of a maximum of 68 m with nine fields . The bridge has a clothoid in plan with A = 1200. The longitudinal gradient has a kink and changes with a trough radius of 25,000 m from −0.8% to 4.5%. The overpass was built between 1999 and 2002 at a cost of around 19 million euros.

Foundation and substructures

Except for the third northern pillar , which was founded on bored piles with a diameter of 1.5 m and a length of 22 m, the abutments and piers are flat . The reinforced concrete pillars with heights between 15 m and 63 m consist of a one-piece hollow cross-section with a wall thickness of 40 cm at the highest pillar, external dimensions of approximately 5.5 m × 10.2 m. On the last upper 24 m, this cross-section dissolves into two individual columns, which have a trapezoidal full cross-section with maximum dimensions of 3.5 m × 3.2 m. The pier heads are connected to one another by cross bars.

superstructure

The one-piece superstructure of the composite steel bridge has a single-cell open steel trough and a 28.5 m wide and 25 cm thick reinforced concrete deck connected with headed dowels . The bottom plate of the box cross-section is 7.4 m wide, the webs of the main girders are inclined and support the deck at a distance of 10.4 m. In addition, the deck is supported on the outside by diagonal struts approximately every 5 m. The construction height of the steel trough is 3.85 m, the construction height of the entire superstructure is a constant 4.2 m. The spans of the 9-field superstructure are 55 m + 75 m + 80 m + 3 × 85 m + 80 m + 70 m + 60 m.

The movement rest point in the longitudinal direction is in the middle of the bridge, where four pillars are immovably connected to the superstructure.

execution

The steel superstructure consisted of 24 sections lengthways, which were delivered in individual parts by truck. The final welding took place on the eastern abutment. For the installation of the steel trough was a launching nose in timed shifting fed in 13 portions on the support pillars. Finally, the reinforced concrete deck slab was produced with three formwork carriages in sections in lengths of 15 m.
