The nature reserve quarry Ilse is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Paderborn in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends southwest of the core city of Paderborn and east of the hamlet of Barkhausen in Wewer , a south-western district of Paderborn. The B 64 runs to the north and the state road  755 to the south . The A 33 runs to the west and flows through the Alme , a left tributary of the Lippe .

The approximately 79 hectare area was placed under nature protection in 1999 under the key number PB-053 . The protection goal is, among other things, the preservation and development of a diverse secondary biotope complex made up of pioneer meadows , semi- arid lawns , dry fallow oat meadows , hedges , field trees, as well as rubble heaps , rock faces and periodic still waters .
