The nature reserve Elser Holz - Rottberg is located in the area of the independent city of Paderborn in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area, which consists of two sub-areas, extends west of the core city of Paderborn and east of Scharmede , an eastern district of Salzkotten . In the southern area the district road K 28 runs through the area, to the west runs the K 3 and north the K 5. To the east run the state road L 756 and the A 33 and flows the Alme , a left tributary of the Lippe .
