Steinfurt Marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Steinfurt Marathon (full name Steinfurter Rolinck Marathon ) was a marathon in Steinfurt ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), which took place in March 1984 to 2011. The organizer was the Turnerbund Burgsteinfurt 1862 eV The competition also included a duo team marathon (since 1987, two runners shared the route), a marathon for hand bikers and a half marathon for inline skaters . The follow-up event was to be the Steinhart500 on November 11, 2012 , a three-lap course with trail character in the Bagno-Buchenberg local recreation area .

The record number of participants with 1145 runners at the finish dates back to March 17, 1990: after the fall of the Wall in East Germany , many athletes from the GDR took part in the run. They were exempt from the entry fee and given free accommodation.

Up to the year 2000, three laps of 14 kilometers each had to be run. Since 2001, the route has been a circuit measured according to the guidelines of the marathon organizer organization AIMS, which was run twice. The start and finish was at Burgsteinfurt Castle . From there it went clockwise through the Münsterland park landscape southeast of Burgsteinfurt to Borghorst and, after the area of this district had been crossed, back to the starting point. 64 meters of altitude had to be overcome per lap . The time measurement was done by ChampionChip .

The Steinfurt Marathon was also known among runners as one of the classic marathons because since it was held for the first time, brake and train runners have been helping hobby athletes to achieve their time goals with a steady pace. Finally, pacemakers are used for seven different time goals from 2:59 to 4:59. This service, which was first offered in Steinfurt, is now being copied worldwide.

The original traditions included a terry towel for every runner who reached the finish line, a rose at the finish line for the participating runners, and name tags to be worn on their backs.
