Geographical location
The "Steinkammer" is located on the ridge, the connecting ridge between the Rhön and Vogelsberg , in the Hessian Rhön Nature Park, which is adjacent to the Hessian Spessart Nature Park . The closest larger town is Rückers about 2 km north.

The circular hiking trails of the "Hessische Rhön" nature park (Steinkammer West and Steinkammer Ost) lead through deciduous and coniferous forests along grassland areas and streams to romantic and secluded places.
- The circular route 1 with a length of 8 km leads from the Steinkammer first to Keutzelbuch then south over the Breite Feld through the charming landscape past natural monuments (old oak and old hat beeches) to the west to the Berghof and back.
- The circular route 2 with a length of 14 km leads from the Steinkammer over the valley of the Hermannswasser over the Berghof to the Steinrück until shortly before Schweben then through the valley of the Kressenwasser over the open fields of Rückers and back to the Steinkammer .
- The circular route 3 with a length of 9 km leads from the Steinkammer over the plateau of the Breiten Feld to Hutten over the fly cap to the Berghof and back to the starting point.
- The circular route 4 with a length of 4.2 km leads through the small-scale forest and meadow landscape of the landscape protection area "Steinkammer".
Ecumenical Way of St. James
The 125 km long Ecumenical Way of St. James leads over the "Steinkammer" from Fulda to the Main. The route leads from Flieden to Rückers up to the Steinkammer and the Breite Feld over the thistle lawn down to Schlüchtern . The pilgrimage route is part of the connection system of the " Via Regia ", whose network of routes led from Ukraine to Spain.

The stone chamber is of volcanic origin. Megalithic graves that were found at the foot of the “stone chamber” bear testimony to the fact that people lived here in prehistoric times.
