The Stella Oceanis was a cruise ship owned by the Greek shipping company Royal Olympic Cruises that entered service as Aphrodite in 1965 . The ship stayed in service until 2003 and was scrapped in India that same year .

history

The Aphrodite was launched on May 9, 1964 under the hull number 1880 at Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico in Monfalcone and delivered to the Greek Coast Line in April 1965 , which used it as a liner with a capacity of up to 40 cars. In the same year, however, it was also used for cruises .

In 1966 the ship went under the name Stella Oceanis to the Greek Sun Line , which converted it into a pure cruise ship in the following year. The number of passengers was reduced from 1,461 to 353 and the cargo deck for cars was removed. Then the Stella Oceanis was used for cruises in the Mediterranean .

After almost thirty years in service for the Sun Line, the ship became the property of the newly founded Royal Olympic Cruises in 1995. It stayed in service for another eight years before being retired in October 2003 and sold to India for scrapping. On November 30, 2003, the Stella Oceanis arrived at the demolition yard in Alang under the transfer name S Ocean .

A similar ship to the Stella Oceanis was the Ocean Odyssey , also scrapped in Alang in 2009 , which was put into service in the same year and had the same dimensions, but had a slightly different design.
