The Royal Olympic Cruises (from 2002 Royal Olympia Cruises ) was a Greek shipping company that was founded in 1995 from a merger of Epirotiki Lines and Sun Lines and operated several cruise ships . After the shipping company ran into financial difficulties in 2003, it was dissolved in 2005.

history

Royal Olympic Cruises was formed in 1995 from a merger of the ailing Greek Epirotiki Lines and Sun Lines. The ships of both shipping companies together formed the fleet for Royal Olympic Cruises, which initially consisted of six units. The mostly older ships were henceforth used for cruises in the Mediterranean .

While Royal Olympic had sales of more than ninety million dollars in 1998, booking numbers fell sharply in 1999. In the same year, part of the shipping company was therefore acquired by Louis Cruise Lines , which commissioned two newbuildings: the Olympic Voyager in 2000 and the Olympia Explorer in 2002.

From 2002 the shipping company officially called itself Royal Olympia Cruises . In 2003 she ran into financial difficulties again, part of the fleet was arrested because of outstanding bills. As a result, most of the ships were sold to other operators or scrapped. In 2005, Royal Olympia Cruises finally filed for bankruptcy and was dissolved.
