The Ocean Countess was a cruise ship that was scrapped after a fire in 2013 in Aliağa ( Turkey ).

history

Cunard Countess (1976-1996)

The ship was launched on September 20, 1974 from the Cunard Line at the Burmeister & Wain shipyard in Copenhagen . On May 21, 1975 the ship was delivered to the client as the Cunard Countess and sailed under the British flag with its home port of Southampton . From May 28, 1975, the final equipment took place in La Spezia . The first Caribbean cruise began on August 14, 1976.

In October 1982 the British Ministry of Defense chartered the ship to use it as a troop transport. The charter ended in April 1983 and the ship was overhauled in Malta and then used again for Caribbean cruises.

In 1990 the ship sailed under the flag of the Bahamas with home port Nassau .

Awani Dream 2 (1996-1998)

On October 26, 1996, the ship was sold to Awani Cruise Line and renamed Awani Dream 2 . It took off under the Panamanian flag .

Olympic Countess (1998-2002)

In 1998 the ship was sold to Royal Olympic Cruises and renamed Olympic Countess . She started sailing under the Greek flag with her home port in Piraeus .

On January 21, 2000, the ship suffered a power failure on the voyage from Málaga to Barbados . The ship was towed to Malaga and repaired in Greece .

Olympia Countess (2002-2004)

In April 2002 the ship was renamed Olympia Countess . On January 8, 2004, the ship was arrested in Durban due to the indebtedness of Royal Olympic Cruises . On January 29, 2004, the ship was foreclosed and acquired by Maximus Navigation Ltd , Piraeus , Greece.

Ocean Countess (2004-2005)

On March 8, 2004 the ship was finally named Ocean Countess , on August 3 of the same year the ship came under the Portuguese flag , and its home port was Madeira .

Lili Marleen (2005-2006)

From November 12, 2005, Holiday Kreuzfahrten chartered the ship and renamed it Lili Marleen . The shipping company went bankrupt in November 2006 and the ship was launched in Piraeus from October 2006 .

Ocean Countess (2006-2007)

In November 2006 the ship was renamed Ocean Countess and was laid up in Eleusis Bay , from December in Piraeus.

Ruby (2007)

From May 2007 Louis Cruise Lines chartered the ship and renamed it Ruby . On May 28, 2007 the first cruise between the Greek islands started.

Ocean Countess (2007-2014)

In December 2007, the ship was again named Ocean Countess . In 2009 Quail Cruises chartered the ship. From 2010 to November 2012, Cruise & Maritime Voyages chartered the ship. On November 30, 2013, a fire broke out on board the ship in Chalkis , during which the ship burned out completely. As a result, the ship was scrapped in the Aliağa shipyard in 2014 .

Sister ship

The Ocean Countess had a sister ship, the Cunard Conquest built Golden Iris .
