Stenocactus sulphureus is a species of plant in the genus Stenocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Stenocactus sulphureus grows individually with almost spherical light green shoots and reaches a diameter of 7 to 10 centimeters. The 26 to 40 thin ribs are wavy. The single, protruding central spine is up to 5 centimeters long. The seven to eight awl radial spines are up to 2.5 millimeters long and turn grayish white.

The funnel-shaped, sulfur-yellow flowers have a pronounced flower tube. They are up to 2.5 centimeters long and 3.8 centimeters in diameter. The fruits have not yet been described.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Stenocactus sulphureus is common in the Mexican state of Hidalgo . It was first described as Echinocactus sulphureus in 1845 by Albert Gottfried Dietrich . Helia Bravo Hollis placed it in the genus Stenocactus in 1982 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
