Stenocereus aragonii is a species of plant in the genus Stenocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Stenocereus aragonii grows with columnar, dark green shoots that branch out only a little from the base and reaches heights of 5 to 6 meters (rarely 6 meters) with diameters of 12 to 15 centimeters. Usually no clearly recognizable trunk is formed. The shoots often have a conspicuous, light-colored band pattern, which indicates the end of the annual increase in length. It runs obliquely from the back of the ribs down to their bay. There are five to eight strong and rounded ribs that are 2 to 3 centimeters high. The one to three, gray central spines are 2 to 3 centimeters long; the likewise gray, five to nine radial spines are up to 2 centimeters long.
The funnel-shaped flowers open at night and are 6 to 8 inches long. The outer bracts are greenish brown, the inner white. Your pericarpel is humped and covered with thorns. Nothing is known about the fruit .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Stenocereus aragonii is distributed in the northwest of Costa Rica in dry forests at altitudes from 50 m and with individual specimens up to 800 m. It was first described as Cereus aragonii in 1902 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . Franz Buxbaum placed them in the genus Stenocereus in 1961 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
