Stenocereus yunckeri is a species of the genus Stenocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The species is named after Truman George Yuncker , an American botanist.
description
Stenocereus yunckeri grows tree-shaped with numerous branched, ascending or upright, strong shoots and reaches heights of up to 10 meters. A distinct trunk with a diameter of up to 35 centimeters is formed. The nine, widely spaced, sharp-edged ribs are broadly triangular in cross section. The small, dark brown areoles on them are bare and 8 to 15 millimeters apart. The single central spine is gray and only slightly longer than the radial spines. Most of the six radial spines are gray and 3 to 15 millimeters long.
Nothing is known about the flowers and fruits .
Distribution and systematics
Stenocereus yunckeri is common in Guatemala and Honduras . It was first described as Cereus yunckeri in 1940 by Paul Carpenter Standley . Paul V. Heath placed the species in 1996 in the genus Stenocereus .
