The Mainit Hotspring Protected Landscape is located in the Davao de Oro Province on Mindanao Island in the Philippines . It was established with the proclamation 320 on May 31, 2000 on an area of ​​1,775 hectares in the municipality of Nabunturan . The protected landscape area was included in the NIPAS Act ( Republic Act 7586 ). The name Mainit comes from native languages ​​and means hot. Mainly groups from the indigenous peoples of the Mandaya, Mansaka and Manobo live in the protected landscape area.

The topography of the park is described as mountainous, the slopes in the park can reach over 18% incline. The highest point is about 1000 meters above sea level. The soil has an average thickness of 45 cm and is classified as sand and clay soil, which have a low fertility. Coconut palms and other fruit-bearing trees grow in the areas to the north of the park. The areas in the south, west and east are described as bush land interspersed with trees.

The Manat River flows through the park and is the main source of drinking water for the Sitio Bukal and Barangay Mainit. The Mainit hot springs are located in the southeast of the park and are also known regionally as Bukal. There are also drinking water springs and some remarkable rock formations in this area.

Flora and fauna

The park's vegetation is mainly dominated by low beech trees such as the falcata beehive plant and others such as the Hagimit, Binunga, Himlaumo bushes. The trees from the wing fruit family that occur in the park are particularly endangered by illegal slash-and-burn operations and illegal logging.

The fauna in the park is quite diverse, so the park offers a habitat for the white monitor monitor and the reticulated python . In mammals, the Filipino relative of the crab-eating macaque , the Sulawesi pustular pig , the Rattus mindanensis , the Filipino tree squirrel and the Filipino spotted musang occur.
