Bruno Torpigliani

Bruno Torpigliani (born April 15, 1915 in Asciano ; † May 3, 1995 ) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and most recently apostolic nuncio in the Philippines .

biography

Torpigliani was ordained a priest on October 24, 1937 and later joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See after working as a priest .

On September 1, 1964, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in El Salvador and Guatemala and at the same time the first titular bishop of Malliana . As such, he received the episcopal ordination on October 25, 1964 by Amleto Giovanni Cardinal Cicognani and the co- consecrators Antonio Cardinal Samorè and Bishop Telesforo Giovanni Cioli . During this time, between September and November 1964 and September and December 1965, he was also the council father of the third and fourth session of the Second Vatican Council .

After an activity as Apostolic Nuncio in the Democratic Republic of the Congo , which began on August 3, 1968 , he was last appointed Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines on June 6, 1973. He held this office for almost 17 years until his resignation in April 1990.

During his activities as apostolic nuncio he donated the episcopal ordinations of Gustave Olombe Atelumbu Musilamu in September 1969, Gaudencio Rosales in October 1974, Vicente C. Manuel in June 1983 and Vicente Salgado y Garrucho in July 1988.
