The Mati Protected Landscape is located between 6 ° 57'09 ”and 6 ° 59'44” north latitude and 126 ° 09'58 ”and 126 ° 11'54” east longitude in Davao Oriental Province on Mindanao Island in the Philippines . It is located in the immediate vicinity of the provincial capital Mati City , in the areas of Sitios Sudlon, Ugilan and Barangay Central. It has been designated as a nature reserve since September 6, 2005 .
The 1,040.20 hectare nature reserve has a 914.26 hectare core zone and a 135.76 hectare buffer zone. The terrain is characterized by a hilly landscape with easy to steep inclines. The Banahaw Stream flows through the area of the nature reserve and has an important function in the water supply of Mati City .
A dense tree population characterizes the nature reserve, whereby no dominant tree species is described here. The only useful trees are coconut palms and fruit trees such as the white-headed mimosa ( Leucaena leucocepala ), which grows wild in the region.
A total of 23 bird species are native to the Mati Protected Landscape nature reserve; other species such as mammals or reptiles have not yet been counted. More well-known bird species include the giggle pigeon , the Philippine bulbul, a songbird, warbler- like members such as the mountain bush warbler, kingfishers , the Philippine serpent eagle, and many others.
