Carlo Martini (born October 1, 1913 in Fontanafredda , Italy ; † July 16, 1986 ) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and most recently Archbishop of L'Aquila .

biography

Martine received on 4 October 1936 by the Bishop of Piacenza Ersilio Menzani the sacrament of holy orders and was then a priest in Piacenza operates. He later entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and was first appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Paraguay on May 25, 1958 and titular Archbishop pro hac vice of Abari on October 5, 1961 . As such, he received episcopal ordination on October 29, 1961, by Antonio Samorè , Secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs ; Co- consecrators were Antonio Bergamaschi , Bishop of Montefeltro , and Artemio Prati , Bishop of Carpi .

Between November 29, 1963 and August 5, 1967 he was apostolic nuncio in the Philippines and council father during the second session of the Second Vatican Council from September to December 1963. After he was apostolic nuncio in Chile on August 5, 1967 , took place on On July 6, 1970 he was called to be an Apostolic Delegate in Mexico . During this time he donated the episcopal ordination to Adolfo Antonio Suárez Rivera in August 1971 .

Most recently he was appointed Archbishop of L'Aquila on June 2, 1973 and held this office for more than ten years until his resignation on December 31, 1983.
