Stenum is an independent farming community in the Ganderkesee community .

geography

Stenum is located about 5 km northwest of Delmenhorst on the northern edge of the Wildeshauser Geest .

In the east Stenum borders on Schierbrok , in the north on Rethorn , in the north-west on Bookholzberg and in the south-west on Elmeloh .

history

The first written mention of the place dates back to the year 1275. In October 2000 Stenum had 1093 inhabitants.

religion

Stenum has two parishes: the Catholic parish of St. Michael and the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Timotheus-Haus.

The place is known for its large stone grave (megalithic tomb) , which probably gave the place its name (Sten-um = stone home).

The Stenumer Holz is an almost 100 hectare forest area that borders on Stenum.

Culinary specialties

In the cold season, many people hike, mostly in groups, to the Backenköhler excursion restaurant. The local specialty is the Oldenburg kale meal Kohl und Pinkel.
