Karl Rupprecht (born August 29, 1889 in Uengershausen near Würzburg , † August 13, 1970 in Mindelheim ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Karl Rupprecht, the son of pastor Heinrich Rupprecht and his wife Auguste Christa Rupprecht, studied classical philology at the University of Munich . After the state examination (1912 and 1913) Rupprecht worked as an assistant at the philological seminar. Rupprecht also worked on the seminar for medieval philology and the newly founded educational seminar. From 1919 he held Latin and Greek language courses. On July 27, 1917 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . His dissertation, supervised by Albert Rehm , did not appear until 1922 with the support of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

In the 20s Rupprecht went to the Bavarian school service. He taught at the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich and from January 1, 1925 as a teacher at the humanistic grammar school in Aschaffenburg. Under the National Socialists he was the victim of political persecution: As part of the law to restore the civil service , he was retired on July 5, 1937 and was prohibited from publishing.

In May 1945 Rupprecht was commissioned by the American military government to rebuild the school system in Aschaffenburg. He returned to the town's high school as a senior teacher. In October 1946 he was appointed director of the humanistic grammar school in Munich-Pasing, now the Karlsgymnasium in Munich-Pasing . In addition to his school service, he taught at the University of Munich, which appointed him honorary professor of classical philology in 1950. In 1957 he was retired.

Karl Rupprecht wrote several study books and commented on text editions for schools and universities. Its introduction to Greek metric (first in 1924) remained in use for a long time. It was replaced in the 1960s by the introductions of Bruno Snell and Dietmar Korzeniewski , to whom his book "Karl Rupprecht in Gratitude" was dedicated. In addition, Rupprecht wrote several articles for the real encyclopedia of classical antiquity (RE).

At the grammar school, Rupprecht pointed out the work of the writer Paul Ernst to many students and thus gave impulses for research into his work.
