Steph Geremia (* in New York ) is an Irish - American flautist and singer who lives in Galway , Ireland .

Career

Steph Geremia was born in an Italian / Irish neighborhood in New York . There she learned to play the Irish Flute and it was there that she came into contact with Irish folk music for the first time . At 16 she played in various orchestras. She studied world music in the USA and traveled through India . There she studied the bansuri , a north Indian flute . This was followed by a trip through Italy , where she came into contact with salsa and jazz .

She went to Ireland , County Sligo , where she continued to study the Irish flute. At the University of Limerick , she completed the study of traditional Irish music with a master's degree.

She played in various formations and soon belonged to the top elite of the Irish music scene. She now lives in Galway , teaches Irish Flute and performs locally, nationally and internationally on a regular basis. She is considered one of the best flute players in the country and a promising up-and-coming talent in Irish traditional music.

In 2008 she took part in the Galway Arts Festival as a solo artist. In September 2009 she performed with Johnny Cunningham at the International Edinburgh Festival . In July of the same year she released her debut album, which is entitled The Open Road .

She is already scheduled for January 21, 2010 for the concert on the occasion of the Celtic Connections , which will take place in Glasgow .

Steph names Geremia as special influences: Matt Molloy , Kevin Crawford , Planxty , Andy Irvine and Dolores Keane . Her first solo recording was released in 2009, which was highly praised by the Irish press.

She has committed herself to the Roscommon / Sligo style, which is characterized by a fluid playing style and high purity of every note.
