The Passage du Prado is located between 16 Boulevard Saint-Denis , 16, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis in a mixed residential and commercial area outside the former city walls, which were demolished in the 17th century and in its place Grands Boulevards were created . It has a right angle in its center, marked by a round square.

The passage is rated as a bit dodgy, on the one hand because of the many nail salons, which are annoying for the residents, and because of its desolate condition and the prevailing uncertainty there. In 2014, the residents of the district formed an association with the aim of improving the image of the passage: A corresponding petition with 200 signatures was presented to the mayor at the time, Bertrand Delanoë .

Name origin

The passage was named after the Prado Museum in Madrid in 1830 . Before it was called “Passage du Bois-du-Bologne” after a dance hall with that name nearby.

history

The passage was built in 1785. It was originally without a ceiling; the glass roof was only built in 1925 in the style of those years and the cast iron beams make a heavy and defiant impression. The passage was given its current name in 1930.

Renovation work began on March 26, 2012 and lasted until July of the same year. The lighting was created by Yann Kersalé .
