history

This short passage was built in 1828 according to the plans of the architect Auguste Lusson . This time was the age of the passages in Paris and there was great competition between the passages. Its eastern part was destroyed in 1854 when under Napoleon III. and the Prefect Georges-Eugène Haussmann, the Boulevard de Strasbourg , a major axis from Châtelet to Gare de l'Est , was created. The newly built entrance on rue de Palestro was designed by Henri Blondel . Two large caryatids (sculpted by Aimé Millet ) frame the entrance, which extends over two floors. The keystone of the arcade symbolizes economic hard work with a beehive . The passage still has a barrel vault in parts .
