Stephan (Slavonia)

Stephan (born December 26, 1332 - † August 9, 1354 ) was Prince of Hungary-Croatia and governor of Transylvania , Slavonia , Dalmatia and Croatia .

Stephan was the youngest of five sons of King Charles I of Hungary from the house of Anjou and his third wife Elisabeth of Poland . He was the younger brother of Ludwig I and Andrew of Hungary , the husband of Queen Johanna I of Naples .

As regent of Spiš and Šariš , Stephan established his own court in 1349. Later he was appointed Regent of Transylvania and in 1351 Regent of Croatia and Dalmatia. In 1353 he became Duke of Slavonia. He died a year later. His son was initially allowed to take over his father's property, but this rule was revoked in 1353.

The oldest part of the castle palace in Budapest goes back to Stephen of Hungary . By Stephan Sturm (Hungarian: István torony ) However, there are only the foundations.

Marriage and children

In January 1350 he married Margarete von Bayern, a daughter of Emperor Ludwig IV from his marriage to Margarete von Hennegau . The couple had two children:
